Malaysia Jet Mystery

Well no doubt by now you have heard and seen the news coverage following the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 and the 239 people on board. Since the aircraft disappeared on March 8, a myriad of theories have been suggested by countless talking heads in the news media. It is quite possible we may never know what happened to Flight 370. It certainly would not be the first time in aviation history such has happened. As it presently stands, it is indeed a mystery.

This captivating story reminds me of something else that captivates the hearts and minds of Christians, and that is the return of our Lord. Different theories (doctrines) have been taught through the centuries concerning the second coming. Some speak with great confidence and certainty as to when they believe it will take place. When the truth of the matter is, we do not know when Jesus will return, only that He will.

Christ Himself tells us: “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be…Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect” (Matt. 24:36-39, 42-44).

This event is also a mystery. No one knows the day or hour when the Son of Man will return. The certainty is in the promise of His return and the judgment of all men (2 Cor. 5:10; 2 Peter 3:1-7). Peter wrote: “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night” (2 Peter 3:9-10a). The question for you is, are you ready? If not, repent, so you will not perish!
